A portable blender can turn a hotel room, office, gym bag or picnic into a place to make a fresh smoothie. But not every cordless blender is capable of handling frozen fruit, ice or leafy greens well.
The best models in 2026 have become noticeably more capable. Some can crush ice, handle tougher ingredients and make several drinks on a single charge, while cheaper models are better suited to protein shakes and softer fruit.
Rather than listing every small blender available, these four models cover the most useful choices for different types of users.

Best portable blender overall
The Ninja Blast Max is one of the most capable cordless blenders currently available.
WIRED named it its best portable blender after testing eight cordless models, highlighting its ability to crush ice, handle tougher ingredients and produce smoothies with better consistency than most competitors. It also offers multiple blending modes and can make roughly seven to 10 batches on a charge depending on how hard it is working.
RTINGS’ August 2026 testing also places the Blast Max among the strongest portable blenders, particularly for frozen ingredients and crushed ice. Its fixed blade design also makes the blending vessel easier to clean than some competing models.
The tradeoff is size and charging time. This is still a portable blender, but it is not as tiny as some of the simplest personal models.
Why it stands out: Excellent cordless blending power, particularly for ice and frozen ingredients.

Best for smoothies
The Beast GO Cordless is designed for people who care more about smoothie texture than simply having the smallest possible blender.
RTINGS currently ranks the Beast GO Cordless as its top portable blender after testing more than 35 portable models. Its testing found that it produces particularly smooth single-serving smoothies, including blends containing tougher ingredients such as kale. It also runs below 80 dBA in its testing, making it one of the quieter options in the category.
The 2.7-cup blending vessel gives you a little more room than many compact cordless models.
There is one notable downside: cleaning is less convenient because the blades cannot be removed from the base and the motor base cannot be submerged.
Why it stands out: Excellent smoothie consistency with tougher ingredients and relatively low operating noise.
3. Ninja Blast

Best budget portable blender
The standard Ninja Blast is the simpler alternative to the newer Blast Max.
It is smaller, charges through USB-C and is designed for single-serving drinks. RTINGS found the Ninja Blast slightly better overall than the BlendJet 2, particularly because it produces smoother results with fibrous ingredients and has a sturdier construction.
It does not match the Blast Max for power, particularly when dealing with large amounts of ice or other difficult ingredients. But if your normal routine is protein shakes, softer fruit smoothies and quick drinks, spending more on the Max may not be necessary.
Its smaller size also makes it easier to keep in a bag or take to work.
Why it stands out: A compact, straightforward cordless blender without the price and bulk of more powerful models.
4. Nutribullet Flip
- With its travel-friendly size and carry handle, the Flip is always down for an adventure.
- The stainless steel tumbler keeps blends cold up to 24 hours.
- Packed with an 11.1V high-torque motor, the Flip has 50% more battery power* than most standard portable blenders and is…
Best insulated portable blender
The Nutribullet Flip combines cordless blending with an insulated travel design.
WIRED included it as one of its two leading portable blenders after testing multiple cordless models. Its insulated design helps keep drinks cold after blending, making it particularly interesting for people who want to prepare a smoothie and drink it later rather than immediately.
The Flip also uses a rechargeable battery and is designed around portability, so it fits naturally into the gym, office and travel use cases.
Its biggest appeal is therefore not simply blending power. It is the combination of blending and carrying the finished drink in one compact design.
Why it stands out: A practical choice when keeping a smoothie cold after blending matters.
Which Portable Blender Should You Buy?
The four choices are easier to separate by how you plan to use them.
Ninja Blast Max: Choose it if you want the strongest overall cordless blending performance, especially for ice and frozen ingredients.
Beast GO Cordless: Choose it if smoothie texture and handling fibrous ingredients are your priorities.
Ninja Blast: Choose it if you want a smaller, simpler and less expensive portable blender for everyday drinks.
Nutribullet Flip: Choose it if you want an insulated design that can keep your drink cold after blending.
What Can a Portable Blender Actually Blend?
Portable blenders have improved considerably, but they still cannot replace a powerful countertop blender.
Most good models can handle:
- Soft fruits
- Protein powder
- Milk and other liquids
- Yogurt
- Small amounts of frozen fruit
- Leafy greens, depending on the model
- Ice, particularly with stronger models
The Ninja Blast Max is particularly capable with ice. WIRED found that it could turn cubed ice into finely crushed ice, something competing cordless models struggled to accomplish.
That does not mean you should fill a portable blender with large amounts of hard frozen ingredients. Adding enough liquid and following the manufacturer’s loading instructions still matters.
Portable Blender vs. Personal Blender
These terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but there is a useful distinction.
A portable blender generally has its own rechargeable battery, allowing you to blend without plugging into an outlet.
A personal blender is usually designed around a countertop motor base. It can still be convenient for travel if the blending cup doubles as a drinking container, but it needs access to an outlet.
If you want to make a smoothie at the gym, campsite, office or hotel without searching for a socket, a true cordless portable blender is the more convenient option.
What to Look For Before Buying
Battery life
A larger battery does not automatically mean better performance. Look at how many blends the manufacturer claims and remember that crushing ice and frozen ingredients can use considerably more power than making a simple protein shake.
Ice performance
If you regularly use ice, do not choose a portable blender based only on its appearance or capacity. Ice is one of the clearest ways to separate stronger models from weaker cordless blenders.
Cleaning
Check whether the blade assembly can be removed and whether the blending vessel is dishwasher-safe. A blender that is annoying to clean is unlikely to become a daily-use appliance.
Capacity
Most portable blenders are designed for one serving. That is an advantage for portability but a limitation if you want to prepare drinks for multiple people.
Charging
USB-C is convenient because you can recharge from many modern power adapters, laptops and power banks. Some higher-powered models use proprietary chargers instead.
Are Portable Blenders Worth It?
A portable blender makes sense if convenience is more important than maximum blending power.
The technology still has limitations. Even the strongest cordless models cannot compete with a full-size countertop blender for large batches or demanding food preparation. But for a single smoothie, protein shake or frozen drink, the better 2026 models have become surprisingly capable.
For most people, the Ninja Blast Max is the most versatile choice. The Beast GO Cordless makes more sense when smoothie texture is the priority, while the Ninja Blast keeps things smaller and simpler. The Nutribullet Flip is particularly appealing if you want to blend and carry a cold drink in the same container.
